Marjan van Loon appointed to Supervisory Board of VDL Groep

28 January 2022

Marjan van Loon will join the Supervisory Board of VDL Groep on 1 February 2022. Immediately after graduating in Chemical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, Van Loon (1965) started working for Shell in 1989. Since 1 January 2016, she has held the position of CEO of Shell Netherlands at this multinational.

The Supervisory Board of VDL Groep also consists of Louis Deterink (chairman), Arie Kraaijeveld, Lau Pas and Wim van der Leegte. As his term of office expires, Arie Kraaijeveld (78) will resign at the next general meeting of shareholders. Arie Kraaijeveld has been a supervisory director at VDL since 2005. We thank him for his efforts over the past 17 years.

On the recommendation of the Supervisory Board, the general meeting of shareholders has appointed Marjan van Loon. Shareholder and supervisory director Wim van der Leegte: “We are delighted with the arrival of Marjan as a new member of our Supervisory Board. Partly because of her extensive management experience in an international group and her expertise in the fields of energy transition, innovation and technology, Marjan is a valuable addition to our Supervisory Board.”

Marjan van Loon: “VDL Groep is at the forefront of the international high-quality manufacturing industry. Innovative, future-oriented entrepreneurs and at the same time, a family business in Brabant where people are key. That suits me well. I have a fun and busy job at Shell, but when VDL asked me for this position, I didn’t have to think twice. I look forward to being a part of the company’s future as a member of the Supervisory Board.”

Marjan van Loon was born in Helmond, is married and has two children.

About VDL Groep
Strength through cooperation. This is the basis of VDL Groep, an international industrial family business with its head office in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This business was established in 1953 by Pieter van der Leegte. Initially, VDL Groep specialised in metalworking. When his son Wim van der Leegte took over the business, the portfolio was expanded to include plastics processing, the development, production and sale of buses & coaches, and high-tech subcontracting for the semiconductor and other industries. VDL Groep is a major player in the fields of subcontracting and semi-finished products and manufactures its own finished products, such as suspension systems, automated car plant systems, heat exchangers and container handling equipment. With VDL Nedcar in Born, it has the only car plant in the Netherlands where serial assembly for third parties takes place. VDL Groep innovates through a combination of professionalism, entrepreneurship and high-quality machines. The group of companies combines the strength of a multinational with the flat organisation structure and open, informal working atmosphere of a family business where growth opportunities and continuity take precedence. The third Van der Leegte family generation has been at the group’s helm since 2016. VDL Groep has over 15,000 employees and operates in 19 countries. The group comprises 105 operating companies, each with its own specialism, working together intensively. In 2020 the combined annual turnover was 4.686 billion euros.
